HOW DO YOU STOP children from crowding around the ball like bees around honey?
Tell them to pretend it’s a smelly Brussels sprout instead!
Young children naturally swarm the ball because they’re excited and want to be involved.
But by using this fun little trick, you can help them understand the importance of creating space – without overloading them with complicated instructions.
Encourage them to imagine that the ball is a smelly sprout and they need to move away from it.
This helps them learn to spread out, giving their teammate in possession more options while also finding better positions for themselves.
It’s a simple but effective first step in teaching young players in the foundation phase about spacing, movement, and teamwork – all while keeping the session fun and engaging!
Try it in your next session and watch the difference it makes!
