And involves a team attacking the opposition’s goal as quickly as possible. The counter attacking team is attempting to exploit any unbalance within the opposition’s structure as they move from attacking to defending.

Counter Attacking from Deep

Counter-attacks will occur in any area of the pitch. But can be more effective from deep, due to the space available behind and around the opposition as they attack.

This is why teams who prioritise counter-attacking will generally move in a low block quickly when out of possession.

Importance of the Rest Attack

The rest attack describes members of a team’s defensive block who play a vital role during transition. A rest attack can be organised with a target man, with a link player or with a wide player.

On regaining the ball the counter attacking team will try to pass the ball to this player as quickly as possible to begin their counter-attack.

A target man will generally receive a direct pass. A link player will attempt to play shorter passes with more control during the counter-attack. The wide player will attempt to receive the ball to the side of the opposition’s rest defence.

If you did find the video useful and you would like to support the channel – You can buy me a coffee here!
https://ko-fi.com/coachreese

Don’t forget to subscribe for more!
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTiwmpyz8wNsNT0DKV_tKBQ/sub_confirmation

And check out my social media:
Twitter – https://twitter.com/CoachReeseYT
Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/CoachReese/
Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/coachreeseyt/

#Football #arsenal #guardiola #stones #footballanalysis #premierleague

Images used:
www.unsplash.com

source

Counter-attacking Learn more about counter attacking and defensive blocks through my Football Tactics 101 e-book – coachreese.gumroad.com Attacking Transitions An attacking transition is essentially a counter-attack.
